299.  WEST CUMBERLAND SCHEME.  (Contd.)

(b) Speed Restrictions

Silloth Branch - Mr.Butland said that as soon as possible after 1st May the District Engineer will be in a position to accept diesel units at 60 m.p.h. from the 6 M.P. to Silloth, with a 40 m.p.h. restriction at the Abbey Town Curve, and towards the end of May recanting and re-alignment will be completed to permit of higher speeds on the curves from Carlisle to the 6 M.P.

Carlisle-Whitehaven. Question still in hand.

(c) Frequency of services.

Noted that additional services would be introduced on the Silloth branch and C.K.& P. Line for the summer period.

(d) Servicing and Maintenance.

(i) Workington - Mr.Butland stated that tenders have been requested for the necessary work and he will send Mr.Stanley a plan of the alterations.

(ii) Carlisle (Upperby) - Mr.Butland stated that a scheme for deepening of the pits is being prepared and he will report at next meeting.

(c) Reports of Failures, etc.

Noted - Report on the third stage of the scheme between Whitehaven and Carlisle attached as appendix "B".

300.  WATFORD - ST.ALBANS BRANCH.

(a) First Unit - Mr.Stanley stated that the release of the first unit from Wolverton Works has been delayed for alteration to the fire equipment, but it will be returned to the Belmont Branch on Monday, April 25th.

(b) Second Unit. - Delivery of 2 power cars and 1 trailer promised for end of May and remaining power car and trailer in June. Nothing further to report.

301.  HARROW - BELMONT BRANCH.

Order for unit placed on the 8th February 1955. Nothing further to report.

302.  MANCHESTER AREA SCHEME.

Noted that the General Manager had not met the deputation from the Buxton Town Council and had explained what is proposed for the Manchester - Buxton line; he had informed the deputation that it was not possible at this stage to say when the diesel service would be introduced.
