Class 111 DMU at Edale

23rd January 1984

It was a freezing day when we got off the 09.32 Sheffield - Manchester at Edale on 23 January 1984, formed of 78968 + 78718, and with a defiant exhaust rasp and a cloud of smoke we were in the fog and snow of the winter Hope Valley all alone on the platform. The signaller has his stove going well to judge by the vertical column of smoke in the still frosty air. Geoff Dowling.

Class 111 78968 is seen stabled at Leeds on 01.09.1987 . All of these conversions were based at Neville Hill, hence the MetroTrain branding. 78968 was converted from 51543. Andy Cole.
