The grounded body of 51861 made a sorry sight at Bletchley Depot surrounded by 54182 at the far end of the row on the left, and the row on the right consisting of from far to near 51883 then 76227, 70778 and 62118 of EMU set 310093. 9th April 1986. S Gaskell.

At Springs Branch on the left the distinctive Class 103 design of sandite vehicle 977047 can be seen, while on the right 40001 is at the far end of the former steam shed buffered with another class 40. Taken in the cab of 52042 at Wigan showing the train lighting controls and the heating system supplied by Dragonair of Portsmouth. 52042 had been refurbished in 1977 and was allocated to Allerton at this time. It was scrapped in 1993. March 1982. S Gaskell.
Seeing I had a camera, the driver of the Class 108 DMU waiting in platform 3 at Wigan North Western with the next service to Liverpool Lime Street invited me into the cab of car 52042 where I took this photo. In the foreground is the large wheel for the parking brake, behind is the red emergency brake and the silver lever is used by the driver to control the train's vacuum brakes. March 1982 S Gaskell.

Set L700 consisting of the first built class 117 DMBS 51332 and the first built class 117 DMS 51374, still together as they would have been in 1959, pauses at Wanstead Park on it's way to Barking from Gospel Oak, 15/Apr/1995. Resignalling is underway on this line and the old searchlight signal at the end of the platform is still hanging on, but it's replacement is already standing, as yet out of use, in front of it.
