104 DMU

circa 1965
This is a panorama of Monument Lane, just north of Birmingham New Street. The station closed in 1958 but is still basically intact although in dreadful condition. About to pass through is a Birmingham bound class 104. The 6 road carriage sheds were used to stable DMU sets at this time. Behind the wall is the Birmingham to Wolverhampton canal, although most commercial traffic had finished it was still possible to see horse drawn boats loaded with rubbish that worked to the Tyseley incinerator. Image taken by Peter Shoesmith. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

It's another hazy spring day in North London with a 'clear road ahead' for the 1115 Gospel Oak - Barking service as it approaches its first calling point at Upper Holloway, formed of BRC&W Class 104 power twin M53492 + M53477. 16th May 1985.
