On 13 September 1975, Gloucester RC&W Co cross-country dmu B571 (51080 + 59292 + 51052) stands at Bristol Temple Meads waiting to work to Portsmouth Harbour. The two-digit headcode panel is showing "85" the Southern Region headcode for this service. Jeremy Chapter.
The Branch Line Society "Forth & Clyde Wanderer" railtour is seen at Bilston Glen on 27 August 1977 formed of set 188 which comprised 51525, 59556 and 51464. All three cars had been repainted into "blue band" livery earlier in the year. Jeremy Chapter.
On 30 September 1978 a return trip on the Looe branch was strengthened by adding a three-car set to the class 121 Pressed Steel "bubble car" to convey passengers from a Main Line Steam Trust loco-hauled railtour down the branch. W55026 (new 1960) is "on the stops" with most of the other three cars not visible (and indeed the full train did not fit the platform". Mercifully I recorded the bus details - this is TTP999, a Leyland Tiger Cub with Weymann body new to City of Portsmouth in 1960 as their number 25. A three-car class 101 Metro-Cammell diesel set (closest is thought to be 50264) was used by the Branch Line Society on 24 August 1980 for their Forfar Railtour from Perth. First port of call was the Dewar's branch where the train reached a point just short of the first trap point. Jeremy Chapter.
On 10 March 1984, the LCGB "Staffordshire Ranger" rail tour is seen at Cheddleton station with a three-car Swindown Works "cross-country" and a Derby Works class 108 three-car. Six Bells Junction notes the vehicles as 51586 + 59583 + 51577 / 53974 + 59387 + 51934. Jeremy Chapter.
