119 DMU

A Class 119 unit (set B571, 51052 and presumably 59292 + 51080) arrives at Worcester Shrub Hill past a splendid array of lower quadrant semaphores in December 1977. Tony Watson.

123 DMU

A Swindon-built DMU in Sheffield station on 7 February 1983. Tony Watson.

met-camm-lightweight DMU

A Met-Camm "Lightweight" twin, and a loose trailer, on Stratford Depot on 21 June 1958. Stuart Mackay Collection.

120 DMU

A Swindon Cross-Country DMU on an up service at Standish Junction on 1 July 1967. Stuart Mackay Collection.

110 DMU

E52070 in platform 4b of Sheffield station circa late 1970s. The destination blind glass looks like it could do with a clean, it seems to show Huddersfield. Stuart Mackay Collection.

117 DMU

Two Class 117 DMUs in Oxford station. On the left is set L420 (presumably 51358 + 59510 + 51400) and set L428 (presumably 51366 + 59518 + 51408) is on the right. The slide was processed in April 1978. Stuart Mackay Collection.

124 DMU

Trans-Pennine power car E51964 inside the DMU Shop at Doncaster Works on 8 June 1980. Stuart Mackay Collection.

127 DMU

Class 127 parcel unit 55968 (and presumably 55978) seems to be undergoing some attention at Liverpool Lime Street on 12 December 1987. Stuart Mackay Collection.

104 DMU

Sandite Class 104 vehicle 977554 on Buxton TMD seen from the station on 5 February 1991. Stuart Mackay Collection.

117 DMU

Two-car Class 117 DMU set L720 (presumably 51354 + 51396) with a Class 121 on the rear (thought to be 55027) at Lidlington on 21-12-1996. Stuart Mackay Collection.

119 DMU

Class 119 DMU set L573 (presumably 51055 + 59417 + 51083) at Oxford, the slide process date was October 1984. Stuart Mackay Collection.

117 DMU

DMU set L205 (51387 and presumably 54385) heads away from Oxford circa 1992. Stuart Mackay Collection.

108 DMU

A Class 101 about to pass a three-car Class 108 (which appears to be set 828, presumably 52051 + 59386 + 51936) at Cockwood Harbour, South Devon. 52051 was transferred to Plymouth in May 1989 and the image would be taken between then and February 1991 when it was involved in a serious fire. Stuart Mackay Collection.

117 DMU

Plenty of water at Kings Sutton on 28 September 1992 as class 117 L405 (51381+ 59491 + 51340) working an Oxford to Banbury local service met 60079 on its way to Didcot Power Station. The River Cherwell flows through a floodplain around here and this scene is repeated most years. The floodplain is wide and as the railway line is on an embankmemt it is rarely closed due to high water levels. Peter Tandy.

116 DMU

It wasn't too difficult to take this sort of picture at Longbridge in 1986. There was a 15 minute local service on the Cross City line with some trains terminating here with others continuing to Redditch. I can't quite make out the unit number on the hybrid set about to leave on the up line on 14 June but think it may be T526 with class 116 power cars sandwiching a class 127 trailer. If I am correct then the car numbers are 53070 + 59626 + 53095 which were listed as being at Tyseley during 1987 although as a four-car set with another class 127 vehicle. It wasn't uncommon for Tyseley to muck about with their sets as faults developed and all sorts of odd combinations were seen. Peter Tandy.

108 DMU

A stranger in the camp at Bilbrook on the Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton line during the morning of 31 August 1991. The 2 car class 108 (LO287, presumably 54203 + 51911) still was allocated to Longsight at this time and I imagine that it had been borrowed by Chester depot to fill in for the lack of a set from Tyseley, the usual source for trains between Wolverhampton and Chester. Much of This line was controlled with mechanical signalling at this time and Bilbrook signalbox is just visible behind the bushes on the right hand side of the line. The destination panel in the unit's cab reads "Chester" although the train isn't far from its Wolverhampton destination. Peter Tandy.

101 DMU

This train, class 101/116 hybrid set T038 formed of 51808 + 53838, was photographed on 4 July 1991 as it left the down bay platform at Leamington Spa with a local service to Stratford-upon-Avon. It was common at this time for a locomotive to be stabled here for weekend engineering work. Peter Tandy.

108 DMU

The Stratford-upon-Avon to Leamington Spa services saw many different classes of DMU but I didn't see many 108s. This set, T072 (53933 + 51566), was climbing Hatton Bank on 27 June 1992 as it went towards a red signal protecting the 15mph junction for the Stratford branch. Peter Tandy.

108 DMU

After a quick turnaround at Derby on the inbound service Class 108 DMU set T039 (52044 + 51928) is seen on a Derby to Crewe service at Stenson Junction on 10 July 1992. Peter Tandy.

108 DMU

The Crewe to Derby trains offered a good chance to photograph first-generation DMUs in 1992. This was taken at Stenson Junction on 10 July with T039 formed from class 108 DMBS 51928 and class 108 DMSL 52044 with the junction to Uttoxeter and Stoke-on-Trent in the right background. The lines on the left are part of MGR loop at Willington Power Station which was still in use at that time. Peter Tandy.
