Taken through the rear window of a Class 101 DMU on the North Berwick service at Drem, 40086 of Gateshead has rescued 47210 of I think Haymarket, which has failed on the 07.38 Playmouth to Edinburgh on 26th June 1974. The KDH Archive.

The loneliness of the long-distance railcar (with apologies to Alan Sillitoe, Tom Courtenay and others for the title.) A first generation diesel multiple unit leaves Tywyn on the Cambrian coast with an up service on Sunday 7th July 1974. The viewpoint is the Neptune Road bridge and on the left the narrow gauge tracks of the Talyllyn Railway, which terminates here, are clearly visible. It's a long formation (nine or ten vehicles), the closest five or six vehicles are Class 101s, the cab facing us has a Tyseley set number so is a three-car, the vehicles at the far end have different roof vent alignments so are different types. A pair of stylish Class 101 Metro Cammell DMUs seen at Scarborough station. This was the scene at Scarborough in August 1974. We had gone up on our 2 week annual holiday, and I was always torn between my love of the beach and my love of the trains :) Although aged just 12, I was happy to roam around the station on my own, and in this shot I managed to capture a lined-up pair of the stylish Class 101 Met-Cam units, both with first class compartments leading. In the sidings in the distance one of the regular visiting Class 40s awaiting its next turn and a Mark 1 coach. Chris McKee.

A Met-Camm set stabled at Shrewsbury, taken with Agfa film on the 9th August 1974. Tried using Agfa and Perutz film for a short time but found that it didn't compare with Kodachrome and over the years it hasn't lasted as well. 54A South Dock.

Helsby Junction 20/8/74. A Class 101 2-car on the 10.10 Chester - Man Vic, with Class 116 3-car suburban unit 50093,59000,50062 on the Hooton branch service. My notes on the print say it stayed for a month on this service. Anthony Griffiths.
