A visit (my only one, so far) to Ilkley on 5 May 1979. I travelled on the 10.27 from Leeds, formed of Metro-Cam Class 101 2-car unit 56385/50202, and this unit is seen departing from Ilkley on its next working back to Leeds, past Ilkley signal box. Ilkley Junction box, which dated from 1913, was closed as from 11 July 1994 in the run-up to the electrification of the line. According to Wikipedia "Ilkley is notable in that it was the last British Rail station to be lit by gas. The gas lights were extinguished for the last time on 8 May 1988." Lewis Bevan.

Class 101 set 204 Rosyth Dockyard Station 19 May 1979. A DMU shuttle was usually operated from Edinburgh in connection with the annual Royal Navy Open Day which we used to good advantage. At this time there was still a train for dockyard workers that was unadvertised in the public timetable beyond Inverkeithing which ran each weekday morning from Kirkcaldy and intermediate stations and back again in the evenings. Alistair Ness.

A moment in time at Rock Ferry on May 22nd 1979 at 11.35am with Class 101 M56333, part of Chester Depot set CR225, awaiting departure with a service to Ellesmere Port and Helsby. Passengers gather on the platform waiting for the arrival of the DMU from Chester. The third rail was extended southwards from Rock Ferry to Hooton in 1985, and onwards to Chester in 1993 with the line to Ellesmere Port following in 1994. In 1979 the electrics from Liverpool Central terminated in the bay platforms out of view to the left of this scene. Today the platforms here handle all services with the bays now mostly being used for stabling units outside of the peak. Martyn Hilbert.
