In the only patch of sun here on July 9, 1986, 45 103 arrives at Scarborough - passing a Class 101 carrying 'Special' on its destination blind, and a Class 100 disappears into the distance on the left. David Christie.

On the afternoon of the 23rd July 1986 a 3 car Class 101 unit sits in Glasgow Queen Street Station awaiting it’s next turn of duty. DMBS SC51467 leads the formation followed by TCL SC59554 with DMCL SC51532 bringing up the rear. It’s very quiet on the Platforms but with the clock above the leading cab showing just after 3pm I’m sure that won’t last very long. The rear 2 vehicles were scrapped by Vic Berry, Leicester SC59554 in October 1988, and SC51532 in July 1990, while the leading car SC51467 met it’s end at Snailwell during September 1990. A Class 101 DMU at Sheffield, 26/07/1986. DMS(L) 53169 was one of the more distinctive cars operating in the north of England in the 1980s, having a red buffer beam, Tyne & Wear PTE logo, plus the top and bottom centre lights on the cab front were not smoothed over as well as most others, leaving circular disc shapes Graeme Phillips Collection.

Class101 DMBS 53210 is seen having just arrived on the Ayrshire side of Glasgow Central Station on the 29th July 1986. Formally allocated to Norwich MPD she still carries her 86 depot number at the top of her centre cab window. Class 101 TSL 59090 forms the centre car in Strathclyde red and black livery with Class 104 53598 bringing up the rear. Together they formed Scottish Region Set No. 104455. All had been scrapped by August 1989 Bob Woolnough.

In Carlisle station on 30/07/1986 is Class 143 143021 55662 55687 (on the left in platform 5) - this will have arrived from Newcastle, and awaiting the return working. On the right in platform 6 is Class 101 E53294 - this platform is usually used by trains to / from Leeds via Settle. Graeme Phillips Collection.
