A Beverley - Hull train with E56052 leading passes the wooden crossing box at Thwaite Street in Cottingham on 19th October 1983. Although I lived most of my life in the village, this is the only photograph I have of the box which was demolished when control of the signalling and crossings was transferred to Hull. Syd Young.
Cambridge allocated class 101 DMU set CA85 stands at Harwich Town station waiting to depart with 2K66 the 16.20 to Ipswich on October 22, 1983. By this date Harwich Town was on the end of a single track passenger branch as beyond Harwich Parkeston Quay station the twin track alignment was operated as two separate single lines. Passenger services used the former up line, while freight used the down line to access the Zeebrugge train ferry berth off to the left of the goods shed seen here in the left background. An unidentified 2-car Class 101 set is seen stabled between duties in sidings beyond Fawcett Street Junction, south of Sunderland station, on 26/11/1983. On 30 December 1983 I travelled on the "West Midlands Roundabout No 2" railtour. This started at Birmingham New Street and visited Drakelow, Burton, Lichfield, Bescot, Bushbury, the Oxley curve, Kidderminster and Worcester SH before returning to New Street. This is the tour train during a short break at Burton. The set visible is 53323 + 59129 + 53307. Lewis Bevan.
