Maerdy - Porth
DMUs were gradually introduced to services from 13th January 1958, using Class 116s. The 6 ½ mile branch also saw some through trains to places such as Pontypridd, Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Bute Road.

The passenger service on the branch ended in June 1964, but it remained open for colliery traffic, allowing a number of DMU railtours to run over the line.
