My second railway picture - nearly as poor as the first, and as can be seen from the LHS this one was decidedly on the skew... A green class 120 set at Hereford station circa 1968, it appears to be W50707. John Crooks.
A rare sight at Hereford at this time in 1976 - a Midland Region class 108 unit crosses over to the up line, ready to return to Shrewsbury. A two-car DMU set, almost always a "Central Wales" class 120, did a fill-in turn each evening, from Shrewsbury to Hereford, arriving at 19.00 on the dot... (I don't remember it ever being late !) - on this occasion, the 120 must have failed, or perhaps there was an incident in the wilds of Powys, and this set was turned out instead. John Crooks.
A Trans-Pennine DMU set that included 51962, 59766, 51970, 51957 pauses at Huddersfield on a Hull - Liverpool working in August 1976. John Crooks.

A Class 115 DMU (51889 closest) with an Aylesbury service in Marylebone station, July 1975. Opened by Great Central Railway 1899, it was the last London main line terminus to be built, designed by the GCR's civil engineer Henry Braddock in English Renaissance style. There is another train shed to the left which is not visible in the photo. The train shed on the right was demolished in the late 1980's and replaced by new office development. Two new platforms were constructed in the very wide central platform (which had a cab rank). Hugh Llewelyn.
Metro-Cammell Class 101 (1959 batch) Local Passenger 3-car dmu No.51451 (Class 101/2) No.59545 (Class 171) & No.51518 (Class 101/2) on display in Marylebone station, mid-July 1974. This was the first dmu to be refurbished on a trial basis to establish what kind of refurbishment program should be adopted for the first generation dmu's to extend their life owing to the lack of money for new stock. Each car was refurbished to a different standard and the highest standard I thought was excellent. Unfortunately this was too expensive to be adopted in the programme. I worked in the Railways Directorate of the Department of Environment at this time and visited the set as part of my job. The platform this set is on was demolished and replaced by a new office block in the late 1980's Hugh Llewelyn.
