derby-lightweight DMU

A London Midland Region publicity image (negative DM449) showing "Conway Valley - diesel railcar on Llandudno Junction - Blaenau Ffestiniog service". No date, probably around spring/summer 1956, and seen between Glan Conwy and Llandudno Junction where it runs along the east bank of the River Conwy. The leading (but not the rear) set is a power twin and the closest vehicle appears to be M79185 - a vehicle that would be allocated to Llandudno Junction several times in its short 11 1/2 year career. A two-car Derby Lightweight DMU arrives into Four Oaks station circa 1957. M79132 leads with "Birmingham via Aston" on the destination blind, it was a Monument Lane from new in March 1956 until June 1958 when it moved to Llandudno Junction. Stuart Mackay Collection.

The slide is noted as capturing 51324 at Crewe DTMD on 30 April 1988. The vehicle had been withdrawn from Newton Heath the previous month and would be cut at Vic Berry's in May. With the speedo cable removed from the leading bogie and bogie dangling from a crane st the rear it looks like a bogie change is underway. Stuart Mackay Collection.
