With passage of time and my notes not specific I only know for sure I traveled on this Unit from Selby to York (although my notes say it was a Doncaster to York service - as this looks like a bay platform could the train have reversed at Selby?) Class 25/3 25324 was passing through Elstree station on the Midland Mainline with a demic Class 127 Bedford-St Pancras DMU bound for Cricklewood Depot on April 12th 1980. Another Class 127 DMU is visible on the extreme left, departing with a St Pancras to Bedford service. These well-worn Diesel-Hydraulic DMU's were finally replaced by Class 317 EMU's in 1983. Complete with a custom paint job on its cab front, a work-worn two-car Class 104 DMU formed of cars M53431 & M53496, was the lead unit of a five-car Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service stood on the Up Slow at Leyland station on June 14th 1986. Martyn Hilbert.
With a heavy rain shower coming inland off the Exe Estuary, Plymouth Laira Class 108 set 956 formed of cars 52063 + 51939, was stood at Starcross with an Exmouth to Paignton service on June 1st 1989. The unit was one of several first generation DMU's sent to work in the West Country following the transfer of the Class 142 'Skipper' fleet North, and before the arrival of Class 150/2 Sprinter units.
