Class 119 set B577 (presumably 51063 + 59422 + 51091) heads out of Worcester Foregate Street in the late 1960s / early 1970s. Whilst most DMUs went from green livery to blue livery from the late 1960s, Cross-Country (Classes 119 and 120) and Inter-City (Classes 123 and 126) types (including Trans-Pennine Class 124) generally went straight into blue & grey livery, thus they carried this livery with many original fitting such as headcodes (which were normally removed later). Going against the trend, some Scottish region Class 120 and 126 units carried blue livery, whilst some Western region Class 101 units that were deployed on Cross-Country services went straight from green livery to blue & grey, long before the livery became standard for the class. Graeme Phillips Collection.

The destination blind has also been removed from above the centre cab front window. Graeme Phillips Collection.

A Class 101 at Whitby in October 1978. Still unrefurbished and in blue livery, this unit has just arrived from Middlesbrough. Plenty of history in this image, with orange BR NER signage, station accessories / equipment plus all the tracks into the station terminus are still intact. With diminishing services, the station was later rationalised to just the single track on the left. However, the platform at which this unit is standing was restored to use in 2014 for NYMR services. Graeme Phillips Collection.
The branch line from Haltwhistle to Alston, which operated as a long siding with no signals, closed on 3rd May 1976. Alston station looks to be in a rather run down condition in this 1974 view, containing a Class 101. Graeme Phillips Collection.
