The former 53040 had the roller shutter doors added at Ilford in late 1987, initially running in the plain blue parcels livery with yellow stripe. It visited Doncaster Works in early 1989 for fitting of Leyland TL11 engines and repaint into red. Malcolm Clements.

The conversion was done at Ilford the previous year, it initially ran with roller shutters in regular blue / grey livery (no yellow stripe) until repainted at Doncaster in early 1989.
