Bedford on the 2nd of June 1984 and we have the 1T08 RESL Midland Engineer Railtour worked by Class 115 DMU set 51676 59654 59753 and 51671. The tour ran from Marlyebone to Crewe and returned to St Pancras, outward via Neasden, High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Bedford, Leicester and Derby, return via Derby and the Midland Main line. The 4-car class 115 DMU used on the F&DRS 'Bucks & Oxon Freighter' railtour on July 14, 1984 is seen during a photo stop at the closed station of Winslow which lost its passenger service from 01/01/1968 but remained as a derelict building until it was demolished in 1989. The station still had intact platforms but by 1984 were overgrown on the freight only Oxford to Bletchley line. Adrian Nicholls.
On a very grey summers day a 4-car class 115 DMU set is seen during a lunch break layover at Quainton Road on the Fakenham & Dereham Railway Societies "Bucks & Oxon Freighter" railtour on 14 July 1984. The former Metropolitan & Great Central Joint Railway station had lost its public service on 4/3/1963 but was located at the heart of the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre which occupied land and sidings on either side of what became the Aylesbury to Bletchley freight only line. It was used for occasional excursion trains and visiting railtours and for a period in the 1980's was served by a shuttle from Aylesbury on Bank Holidays for passengers visiting the railway centre.
