Last Day. Last arrival at Kilmacolm with a six car set on the 18:07 ex Glasgow Central. Metro Cammell 101 327 triple is nearest the camera and 107 435 is at the head in the darkness. The destination screen will be turned one last time from Kilmacolm to Glasgow for the 19:01 departure. Looking at the crowd on the platform, just as well it is a six car set. Saturday 08 January 1983. alicia hartman.

Last Day. Despite appearances this is 107 435 at the buffer stops at Kilmacolm, having arrived on the 18:07 working from Glasgow Central along with 101 327 at the rear. Derby 107 435 (with Metro Cammell DMS) had been operating the Kilmacolm line for most of the day along with Cravens 105 373. This six car set was the very last timetabled passenger train at the Renfrewshire station. Saturday 08 January 1983. alicia hartman.

Last Rites. A wreath signifying the end of the Kilmacolm line is about to be hung on the lamp iron of Metro Cammell 101 327 at the head of the 19:01 Kilmacolm - Glasgow Central service. The driver will wind the destination screen round one last time. This was the very last service to leave the Renfrewshire town with 107 435 on the rear of a six car set. The official closure date was Monday 10 January 1983 - there was no Sunday service and the Monday would be the first day without rail services. Notice the policeman keeping an eye on proceedings! Last Rites. The destination screen has been reset and 101 327 and 107 435 are ready for the final 19:01 departure from Kilmacolm. In addition to a wreath, a headboard has been hung on the lamp iron on the secondman’s side. The headboard reads ‘Class 126 Farewell to Kilmacolm’ and was prepared after the then Swindon Preservation Society asked BR to diagram the remaining two Class 126 sets on the Kilmacolm line for the final day. It was not to be, but 126 406 and 126 413 were seen on the main line at Elderslie earlier that day. However, images on Railcar show the two remaining Swindon Inter-City sets did work the branch during the week. All that was needed was a driver and guard to bring 114 years of railway history to an end. Saturday 08 January 1983 alicia hartman.

Sc56395 at Thornaby on the 30th January 1983, en-route from Arnott Young Fighting Cocks to Snailwell. As the date painted on the side shows, it had been withdrawn almost ten years previously. The red signs probably warn about asbestos content, a week later the vehicle was still at the depot but all doors and windows were boarded up. Jerry Glover.
