Class 116 set T414 with Driving Motor Second M51144 closes stood in platform 1 of Preston with a Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North working on June 24th 1989. 37 370 & 37 379 stand on the Up Goods Loop awaiting the road with the Clitheroe to Gunnie Clyde Cement. Martyn Hilbert.

A three-car Class 108 DMU formed of cars 51948, 59389 & 52050 (CH378), was stood in platform 2 at Preston with a Heysham Harbour to Stockport service on September 23rd 1989. Martyn Hilbert.

Set: CH278
Having arrived at Preston at the rear of a four-car service from Barrow-in-Furness, Class 108 set CH278 formed of cars M53983 & M54266 were stood at the North end of platform 5 on the late afternoon of January 6th 1990. The set was withdrawn from Longsight Depot in July 1991 and subsequently scrapped by Mayer Newman at Snailwell. Martyn Hilbert.

Set: LO269
Following a heavy rain shower, a two-car Class 108 DMU with Driving Trailer Second Lavatory (DTSL) car M54214 at the rear was stood at the north end of platform 5 at Preston on June 30th 1990. The DMBS is presumably 53927. The DMU had arrived from Barrow-In-Furness and after the passengers alighted, was working the short distance ECS to the sidings at Croft Street, adjacent to Preston Power Box. Martyn Hilbert.

Set: LO612
Derby Class 108 (LO612) M51937 & M52053 - Preston Station. A close-up of Class 108 Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M51937 stood in platform 2 at Preston awaiting departure with the 10.23 service to Ormskirk on August 15th 1992. The car had previously been allocated to Landore Depot at Swansea as part of set S937 (with Driving Trailer 52058) during the latter part of 1991, hence the Welsh Dragon emblem on the cab front. Following departmental use, the unit was withdrawn in 1993, but M51937 has survived into preservation and is now part of the two-car Class 108 DMU owned by the Poulton & Wyre Railway based on part of the former Fleetwood line. Still carrying BR blue/grey livery, Class 101 Sandite two-car DMU 960995, was stood in bay platform 4c at Preston station on May 28th 1994. The cars had been renumbered to 977904 (ex 53291) + 977903 (ex 53208). Martyn Hilbert.

Set: 101685
Complete with a Father Christmas in the offside cab window, the retro BR green liveried three-car Class 101 DMU (101685) formed of cars 53160, 59539 & 53164 was stood in bay platform 4C at Preston on December 17th 1994. The unit was operating the Ribble Valley Rail Santa Specials between Clitheroe and Preston. The interior of the cars had been adorned with Christmas decorations and the luggage racks trimmed with tinsel. Martyn Hilbert.

A Class 150 and Class 101 in Preston station, date unknown. It looks like it is set 101661 and so the vehicles should be 51463 + 54365. Simon Barnes.

Longsight allocated Class 101 set L840 formed of cars 53322 + 53311, still carrying Network South East livery, was departing from platform 1 at Preston with the 09.45 Manchester Piccadilly to Blackpool North service on May 24th 1997. Martyn Hilbert.

In Regional Railways livery, Metro-Cammell Class 101's 101655 (54062 & 51428) & 101653 (51426 & 54358) were arriving at Preston with the Saturday Only 09.44 Manchester Piccadilly to Blackpool North service on April 18th 1998. In set 101655, car 54062 has survived into preservation at the East Anglian Railway Museum, whilst 51428 was scrapped in 2001. In set 101653, 51426 was scrapped in 2001 with 54358 being preserved at the North Norfolk Railway. Martyn Hilbert.
