In typical British summer weather with the rain falling steadily a class 115 4-car DMU set waits to start the Fakenham & Dereham Railway Society "Bucks & Oxon Freighter" railtour from London Marylebone as the 09.25 to London Broad Street on 14/07/84. London Marylebone station on 14th January 1985, and nothing had really changed to the structure of the station since the steam era. BR Class 115 DMUs forming services to and from Aylesbury stand at the buffers during the middle of the day; nothing remarkable about this, just another day at this former Great Central Railway London terminus. These units plied the route day in, day out for over thirty years, between 1961 and 1992. Gordon Edgar.
When snowfall came to London in January 1985, presenting unusual photographic opportunities, I couldn't resist capturing Marylebone station a few years before modernisation took place. Class 115 DMU (power cars 51667 and 51674) leaves a smoke trail as it departs and passes beneath Rossmore Road forming an Aylesbury service on 15 January 1985. The Marylebone class 115 sets, which were later transferred to Bletchley but remained on Chiltern Line duties, were declared surplus after the introduction of Class 165s from 1991 onwards and the final Class 115 working out of Marylebone was in July 1992.
