An unidentified 86 enters Preston from the north passing a 2-car 108 with 50629 leading, on 3/Jun/1978. Robert Chilton.
With the former East Lancashire entrance building in Butler Street on the skyline, a pair of two-car Carlisle Kingmoor allocated Class 108's were stood at the North end of platform 5 at Preston on October 14th 1978. The nearest set was formed of Driving Trailer Composite Lavatory (DTCL) M56250 coupled with Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M50967. The units had bars on the droplights due to limited clearances on the Cumbrian Coast line between Maryport and Carlisle. On February 5th 1988, M56250 was involved in a collision at Carnforth with an engineers wagon, and it ended its days grounded at Carnforth Midland Bottom End Yard until it was scrapped on site. A former Eastern Region Cravens Class 105 Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) M50389, complete with a paraffin tail lamp, was stood in platform 3 at Preston station with a well-filled two-car Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North service on the evening of Friday August 24th 1979. Most of the local Cravens sets in the Preston area were power-twin units, but this set was a power-trailer, with Driving Trailer Composite Lavatory (DTCL) M56456 leading. Martyn Hilbert.

A four-car Class 105/104 DMU was passing Croft Street Sidings and the Preston PSB with a Blackpool South to Colne service on May 15th 1982. The lead set, a Cravens Class 105 power-twin, was formed of cars M50794 & M50761, at this late stage in its operational life, the Greater Manchester PTE 'M' logo had been added to M50794. The Cravens was finally withdrawn from Newton Heath depot in July 1983. Martyn Hilbert.
