20th September 1980

With its destination blind in a bit of a mess, a Derby Class 116 Suburban 3-Car DMU with Driving Motor Brake Second M50063 leading, had arrived at Kentish Town with a service from Barking on September 20th 1980. The service through to Kentish Town on the Midland main line was withdrawn in 1981. Martyn Hilbert.

Class 116 DMU at Barnt Green

16th August 1986

Set number: TS512

Barnt Green is the junction for the Redditch branch, the line for which curves sharply away from the Birmingham to Bristol line. Line occupation, especially in the summer, meant that trains from Redditch often had quite a wait in the platform until Saltley Power Box found them a path, especially if they were a minute or two late arriving. The usual class 116 (TS512, presumably 53063 + 59717 + 53119) is shown here on 16 August 1986 waiting at the signal before heading off to Lichfield City via Birmingham New Street. Peter Tandy.

Class 116 DMU at Hatton

24th April 1987

Set number: TS512

An evening train from Leamington Spa to Birmingham Moor Street had just dropped off a few passengers at Hatton when I photographed it on 24 April 1987. The unit is the usual class 116 3 car - set TS512 presumably 53063 + 59717 (a 115 TS) + 53119. Peter Tandy.
