Class 116 DMU at Lochgreen Junction

7th November 1982

A Class 116 dmu (50822 presumably leading with 59330 + 50881) northbound on the Troon avoiding line, Lochgreen Jn. on 07-11-82. Image by A.Wilson. This view shows a train probably an empty stock working avoiding Troon on the loop line. Lochgreen Junction with its signal box is in the background. This was the original main line and was superseded in 1892 when the loop was built, bringing the passenger station into the town. This avoiding line closed shortly after this, on 28-11-1982, in preparation for re-signalling and electrification. Gordon Thomson.

Class 116 DMU at Kilmaurs

24th May 1984

Derby Suburban Set 387 brakes for Kilmaurs station on a northbound service to Glasgow Central. The station had reopened that day and was served by Glasgow - Kilmarnock local DMU services. Auchinleck station also re-opened the same day, generally served by Glasgow - Kilmarnock - Carlisle loco hauled services. Thus a trip between the two new stations at that time required a change at Kilmarnock. The new platform visible in the distance seems to be on the former Glasgow bound formation. Note the old goods shed to the right. Saturday 12 May 1984. alicia hartman.

Class 116 DMU at Kilmaurs

24th May 1984

Derby Suburban Set 387 approaches Kilmaurs station from the south on a Kilmarnock - Glasgow working. The section from Kilmarnock to Barrhead was singled circa 1973/4 (save for a passing loop at Lugton) and the former double track formation is evident here. Kilmaurs was closed in 1966 but the station had re-opened that day under the auspices of Strathclyde PTE. Frequencies were subsequently increased to half hourly many years later in 2009 with the construction of a 5.5 mile dynamic loop (further north) between Lugton and Stewarton. Saturday 12 May 1984. alicia hartman.

Class 116 DMU at Glasgow Works

circa 1985

The DMS from Class 116 set 387 - presumably 53881 - in Glasgow Works circa 1985. Mike Bunker.

Class 116 DMU at East Kilbride

9th July 1985

Class 116 DMU set 116 387 (formed 53090 + 59330 + 53881) is seen at East Kilbride station having arrived with the 10.00 from Glasgow Central on 09.07.1985. This line survived as a branch as it formed part of the Glasgow suburban network but was once a through route to Hamilton. The line that once extended beyond where the buffer stops are used to go through to Hunthill Junction on the Hamilton & Strathaven line. Adrian Nicholls.
