Bedford - Bletchley

Services were integrated with Bletchley - Cambridge services (and the occasional Oxford - Cambridge) until 1 January 1968.

Class 105 DMU at Bow Brickhill

3rd July 1974

A Cravens 2-car set runs into the staggered platforms of Bow Brickhill station on 3 July 1974, working the 09.00 Bedford to Bletchley. The station is still open, but is now equipped with half-barriers, steel fencing and security cameras. Bow Brickhill level crossing featured briefly in a 1963 episode of 'The Saint' TV series. The 12:10 to Bedford St Johns sits in the platform at Bletchley station on 1 November 1975 formed of Cravens vehicles M56146 + M50391. Robert Thomas.

Class 105 DMU at Bedford St Johns

21st April 1977

A Cravens 2-car DMU arrives at Bedford St Johns station, working in from Bletchley on 21 April 1977. The LNWR signal box was damaged by fire later in the year and was subsequently rebuilt using the top of a Midland Region type 15 design. Leading is thought to be M50392 which had a C3T overhaul at Derby Litchurch Lane dated 10th March 1977. Kevin Lane.

Class 105 DMU at Ridgmont

14th February 1981

With the trademark chimneys of the London Brick Company smoking in the background 56148 and 50391 are approaching their stop at Ridgmont on the Bletchley - Bedford line on 14/02/1981. Just by the chap walking onto the platform is the lever frame for the signals and crossing, this was moved here in 1934 as a staff economy measure and it allowed the signalman to open and shut the gates and attend to booking tickets, the instruments are inside the bay windowed booking hall. M50534 and M56177 stand at Bedford St Johns after their trip from Bletchley on 10 June 1982. Services were diverted to Bedford Midland in 1984. Both cars were built by BRCW and were new to Stoke depot in April 1958. Jeremy Chapter.

Class 104 DMU at Bedford St Johns

10th June 1982

Bedford St Johns was once on the Oxford to Cambridge line. By 10 June 1982 it was clearly underused and hardly providing a service to passengers, being a distance from the town centre. Two years later, passenger services from Bletchley were diverted to Bedford Midland permitting interchange with the Midland Main Line. The BRCW class 104 dmu is formed 56177/50534. Jeremy Chapter.
