646. SCHEMES UNDER CONSIDERATION BY

1. Marylebone Suburban
Services
(a) Submission of scheme - The Chairman
said that a promise had been made that this scheme would be submitted
by the end of January, 1959, and pressed for the submission to be sent
to the General Manager without further delay.
Mr.Gould reported that the preparation of the report had
been delayed by the investigation into the question of first class
seating. This had now been resolved and the submission was
proceeding. It was now anticipated that 35 4-car units (140
vehicles) would be required for the operation of the services, and
Mr.Gould has this under investigation.
(b) Production of vehicles -
Commences in January, 1960 at Derby Works following the vehicles for
the St.Pancras scheme. Mr.Stanley anticipated no difficulty in
the building at Derby Works of the increased number of vehicles
anticipated.
(c) Seating arrangements -
Noted it had now been decided that first class seating accomodation
be provided on these services. By reason of this decision,
and the fact that the vehicles would be fitted with trip cocks, they
would not be inter-changeable with the vehicles for the St.Pancras
scheme, but it would not be necessary to increase the number of vehicles
required for the latter scheme.
(d) Lengthening of platforms -
Question of necessity still under consideration.

3. Bletchley - Oxford - Cambridge
Scheme
Mr.Gould reported that this scheme could be brought into
operation immediately authority was received to introduce diesel
units on this line. Temporary maintenance facilities have been
installed.
Noted that Eastern Region had approved and Western Region
will be pressed.
