(4)  Diesel Costings.  Back checking:  Bury-Bacup Scheme

Noted that this investigation is progessing satisfactorily.

(5)  Conveyance of parcels traffic

Present position noted as follows :-

(a) West Cumberland Scheme - First van being delivered this week and two remaining vans by end of July.  Mr.Reynolds reported that consideration was being given to the use of these vans in another scheme where better utilisation could be obtained.

(b) Manchester Part 2 scheme - Two vans authorised for inclusion in 1959 Building programme.

(c) St.Pancras scheme - Two vans to be included in scheme when submitted.

(6)  Design of standard units of 57' stock

(a) Coupling together of units

Noted that the question of a common control of each type of transmission was still under consideration by B.T.C. with Messrs.Rolls Royce and B.U.T.

(7)  Units out of service for Works attention

Noted that a departmental meeting was taking place on July 16th to decide on the policy for the stoppage of vehicles for Works attantion.

590.  RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS

(1)  Delivery of vehicles

First vehicle now delivered and being sent to Bedford for staff training.  Remaining two vehicles to be delivered on July 21st and 28th.  B.T.C. have agreed to fourth vehicle being transferred to Scottish Region.
