506   GENERAL MATTERS OF POLICY

1.  Minutes of meeting of 12th March, 1957

Agreed.

2.  Programme of Light Weight Diesel operation over the next five years

(a)  Allocation into types of 1,000 ordered - B.T.C. have been advised of types required for 775 Cross Country 57' vehicle. With regard to 85 Inter-City 63'6" vehicles, C.O.S. is still considering separation into various types dependent upon type of vehicles required for Liverpool, Leeds Bradford Scheme.  The 140 Suburban 63'6" vehicles are required for St.Pancras Suburban Services Scheme and C.O.S. will shortly supply information as to number of motors and trailers required.

(b)  Report of working party on diesel train main line traction. - Noted that report on the Midland Division states that "Passenger requirements would be covered by an extension of the diesel multiple unit programme to embrace those sections of the line which have not yet been examined, notably Birmingham - Worcester - Gloucester - Bristol; Derby - Manchester and Sheffield - Leeds".   Report has been sent to departments concerned for observations and position will be clarified when report received.
