463.  RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS

1.  General Policy

Noted that the B.T.C. are ordering 20 4-wheeled rail buses for experiment, four of which are to be allocated to the L.M.Region.  Delivery is expected by the end of 1957, and details of design will be circulated when these are available.  Messrs.Gould and Read will consider and submit proposals for the employment of the four rail buses.

2.  Buckingham - Banbury Line

(a) Traffic Receipts to 30.9.56. shown on Appendix "A" attached.

(b) Operation of two cars on alternate days. Mr.Adkinson said no difficulty has been experienced and none is anticipated in this working.

(c) Use of motor cars and trailer car instead of two motor cars.  Agreed consideration be given to a spare trailer, on hand at Longsight from Manchester Part 1 scheme, being used on this line.  Comparative costs to be compiled and questions of first class accomodation on trailer to be considered. Messrs.Read, Gould, Adkinson and Nicholls to report jointly.

(d) Halt at Farthinghoe.  Mr.Read reported a halt was not justified and said that station is now to be demolished.

(e) Maximium loading capacity.  Mr.Gould stated that ivorine tablets were still fitted to both cars and it was noted that these will be removed when continuous cantrails have been fitted.

464. INTER CITY TRAINS

1. Design of unit.   The Committee travelled between Euston and Rugby on the experimental unit fitted with Davey Paxman engines and the running of the unit was noted with satisfaction.  C.M.& E.E. is continuing with the experiment.

2. Design of buffet car.   Nothing further to report.

3. Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford scheme.   The Regional Accountant's financial assessment of this scheme was considered in detail and it was agreed that the submission be re-considered, special attention being given to the following :-
