2. Liverpool Central - Gateacre and Warrington (C).

Preliminary report agreed in principle. Mr.Read will re-consider anticipated increase in revenue bearing in mind possible potential of 150% increase in carryings. Anticipated savings in engines and coaching stock to be re-considered.

Final report, together with financial statement, to be submitted as a matter of urgency.

A number of the stations to be served by the above two schemes were inspected by the Committee and it was agreed that the Chief Civil Engineer, in conjunction with other officers concerned, would take special steps to deal with arrears of maintenance to enable improved conditions to be available for the new diesel services.

3. Derby, Nottingham, Leicester Part 1.

(a) H.P. requirements. Noted that C.M.& E.E. held a meeting with Cravens and Rolls Royce on April 4th at request of B.T.C. and these firms are now considering a suitable design. B.T.C. have been advised that the requirements of this scheme can only be met by the provision of 3-car sets with sufficient power to enable at least one parcels van to be hauled.

(b) Halt between Leicester and Coalville. Still under consideration.

4. Birmingham Part 2.

Report expected to be ready shortly.

5. Manchester Part 2.

Preliminary report considered, together with financial statements. Mr.Read will reconsider estimate of increased revenue which had been put at about 50% only having regard to the proposed diesel service on some sections being little different from the present service.

Mr.Langridge will reconsider proposed use of all-powered cars. Revised report, together with financial statements, to be submitted as quickly as possible.

6. Nottingham - Sutton Town

Mr.Read said it had not been found practicable to find from E.R. or L.M. sources diesel units with which to operate this service and the possibility of increased steam services was under consideration.

7. Hooton - West Kirby

Noted that it has been decided not to proceed with the operation of this line by diesel units.
