335.  INTER-CITY TRAINS.  (Contd.)

(c) Liverpool - Leeds - Bradford Scheme.  (Contd.)

Mr.Gould said that on Saturdays during the summer timetable 8-car trains will be required, but the Eastern Region Chief Operating Superintendent states that 8-car trains cannot be taken into Leeds station on Saturdays. It has been suggested that the trains should terminate at Bradford on Saturdays during the summer and at Bank Holiday periods, and this question is still under discussion between the Chief Operating Superintendents and Chief Commercial Managers of the two Regions.

(d) Birmingham - Liverpool - Manchester Scheme

Noted that final scheme is not yet ready for submission. C.O.S. has made a preliminary forecast that four 6-car trains may be required plus one spare train.

Mr.Forsyth said that if the speed restriction could be lifted by 10 m.p.h. there would be a possibility of reducing the journey time by approximately 27 minutes off the steam timings.

336.  STANDARD UNITS OF 57' STOCK

(a) Allocation of units being built at Derby and by Contractors.

Proposals for the allocation of the remaining vehicles earmarked for L.M.Region not yet ready. C.O.S., C.C.M. and M.P.S. will submit as a matter of urgency before the next meeting.

Noted that the 9 6-car sets included in the 74 vehicles can be utilised as 3-car sets.

Mr.Randle's letter of July 14th considered and agreed that the 3 motor cars and 2 trailers, of which 2 motor cars and 1 trailer have been allocated to West Cumberland, be built to diagram DE.45717A, which includes a 16'0" brake compartment.

(b) Lighting equipment - Generators.

Noted that for the West Cumberland scheme 8" C.A.V. Dynamos are superseding those now fitted in conjunction with C.A.V.  For all other schemes Stones equipment is being fitted.

(c) Rolls Royce Engines

It was stated that Messrs.Harrison and Bond would like the first four motor cars fitted with Rolls Royce engines to be allocated to this Region, preferably in the Derby - Nottingham - Leicester scheme.
