Leyland Albion 230hp Engine

The Leyland O.900 series range was built by the Albion Works in Scotstoun, Glasgow, a company that Leyland had bought in 1951. They would be badged as BUT engines but still commonly referred to as "Albions".

The engine was first used in the last deliveries of the Class 114s when the 680s were found to be underpowered for the longer steel vehicles in the power-trailer formation. The rest would then be retrofitted with the Albions.

All had mechanical transmissions. The parcel car application gave 460hp for a single vehicle making it very powerful, this was to allow it to haul large tail loads.
