The much lamented Swindon Class 120's used to work the Crewe - Derby services in the late '70's and early 1980's - here one such unit has just departed Stoke-on-Trent at Cockshute on its way to Crewe on the 19th April 1980. They were usurped by new Sprinter Class 150's in 1986. Paul Bettany.

BR ran a series of 'Rail-Cruises' over the freight only Churnet Valley lines during the early 1980s - the line is now in the hands of the Churnet Valley Railway and sees use between Leekbrook and Kingsley. On the day prior to a seven-week shut-down for modernization and re-modelling of Crewe station 20185 sits alongside one of the much lamented Class 120 Diesel Multiple Units (jumper cables and vacuum bags hanging loose) on the 26th May 1985 - note the abundance of mail trolleys cluttering the station platforms - oh the memories! With the GWR 150 celebrations of 1985 in mind 1st generation DMU No.s W51368, W59520 and W51410 emerge from Bristol Bath Road in GWR Chocolate & Cream livery, on the 30th June 1985. Sadly BR, in their infinite wisdom, announced the closure of Swindon Works within the same year and completely marred any festivities including the planned works open day. Paul Bettany.
