A TBS Met-Camm set departs Stroud station for Stonehouse, Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa. The area in front of the viaduct in the photo used to be the Stroud Brewery which burnt down in the 1960's and then became home to the HQ of the Stroud & Swindon Building Society. In the foreground are the remains of the Midland Railway's Stroud Branch from Dudbridge Junction and Stonehouse. The MR station was just to the right of the photo and survived into the 1990's as a Calor Gas shop. fgrsimon.

C317 (power cars presumably 50858 + 50911) makes a typically smoky exit as it departs Radyr station bound for 'the valleys' on a Glorious early 80's summer day. fgrsimon.
A Class 120 repaint at Swindon Works in the summer of 1983. The BR logo and number are applied before painting (as was the white lines), these vinyl stickers are supplied with a masking layer which is removed after painting. The number appears to be M51578 or M51573 - although both of these were oval buffered vehicles? fgrsimon.

A Class 118 DMU (presumably 51319 59477 51304) on a Swindon to Cheltenham Spa service departs Stroud on a misty Winter's day in 1981. Stroud station, a typical GWR affair, has barely changed in the last 29 years. The railways have changed beyond imagination and mostly not for the better. fgrsimon.

The much lamented Swindon Class 120's used to work the Crewe - Derby services in the late '70's and early 1980's - here one such unit has just departed Stoke-on-Trent at Cockshute on its way to Crewe on the 19th April 1980. They were usurped by new Sprinter Class 150's in 1986. Paul Bettany.
March based 31322 with a rake of mixed vehicles, at least the first vehicle being a DMU car (a 116?) at Nuneaton on 28th October 1981. Paul Bettany.
Perhaps the most aesthetic of 1st generation DMU's were the class 124 Trans-Pennine's - here a four car set awaits service at Sheffield Midland on the 27th October 1981. Paul Bettany.
With bunting out for the occasion DMU's 50400 + 56150, 56213 + 50625, 56161 + 50404 approach Cheddleton on 22nd June 1980. BR ran a series of 'Rail-Cruises' over the freight only Churnet Valley lines during the early 1980s - the line is now in the hands of the Churnet Valley Railway and sees use between Leekbrook and Kingsley. On the day prior to a seven-week shut-down for modernization and re-modelling of Crewe station 20185 sits alongside one of the much lamented Class 120 Diesel Multiple Units (jumper cables and vacuum bags hanging loose) on the 26th May 1985 - note the abundance of mail trolleys cluttering the station platforms - oh the memories!
