Only two of these vehicles are known to have had the cab doors painted yellow - NE51960 which had the blue squares inside the lamp brackets, and NE51963 which had the blue squares outside - so this should be the latter, unless there were more than two? 124 DMU

20th September 1981

On arrival at Sheffield, I made my way to the other end of my unit and found the leading car was a genuine Trans-Pennine beast. The full set formation was : E51964 (seen here) + E59765 + E59767 + E52087. What a sad state E51964 presents here, it reminds me of a WD 2-8-0 in the final days of steam. These units ran in pristine condition in the early years. I do recall to this day though, the comfortable ride I enjoyed that day. 20/9/81. Gerard Fletcher.

These stylish DMUs, built at Swindon Works in 1960 had a mixture of saloon and compartment seating. They were stalwarts on the Liverpool-Hull route for most of their lives, until the last few were withdrawn in 1984. Martyn Hilbert.
