117 DMU

25th October 1986

Set: L402

NSE liveried class 117 DMU set no. L402 (51377 + 59487 + 51335) stands at Clydach-on-Tawe on the freight only branch from Felin Fran East Junction on 25.10.1986. The DMU was working the Monmouthshire Railway Society "Cynheidre Curler" railtour along with sister set L414 visiting freight branches in the Western Valleys of South Wales. The tour being late in the year suffered from poor adhesion on some of the steep goods lines into the valleys and lost a lot of time. At this stage the tour was 40mins late but by the time it had reached Onllwyn washery the next branch RST (Railtour Standard Time) had been passed with the train over an hour late. Adrian Nicholls.
