A Derby Heavyweight set in the up platform at Bottesford on the 3rd May 1970. The DMBS is in rail blue, the DTC is in green with a full yellow end. On the platform, the short piece of white post and rail fencing was put across the gap left when the signal box was abolished. Opposite the unit used to stand the Goods Shed. Grantham is on the destination blind, presumably on a service from Nottingham. David Page.

At Barnby Dun in 1971 a Class 114 diesel multiple unit passes under the fine Millstone Grit stone bridge - dating from 1856 when the South Yorkshire Railway opened the original line - carrying Armthorpe Lane on its way eastwards on the four track section of the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway, later Great Central Railway, main line to Grimsby & Cleethorpes.
