18th May 1963

A BRC&W triple set forms the 1.34pm Cheadle to Stoke train seen at Cheadle (Staffs) on 18 May 1963. Passenger services were withdrawn from the station the following month, plans are underway to re-open it. The DMCL has Cresswell on the destination blind, this was where the four mile branch joined the Crewe - Derby main line. Stuart Mackay Collection.

2nd August 1963

Two young trainspotters sit quietly on the bench at Darlaston Station as a BRC&W DMU rumbles in with a Wolverhampton bound train from Burton via Walsall on 02/08/1963. The station is in very good condition given it's timber constuction, the booking hall is at road level on Walsall Road, the main buildings have a canopy but the waiting room on the Wolverhampton bound platform has an unusual barrel roof, the station is gas lit. 2nd August 1963

This was the scene looking at Willenhall station on 2nd August 1963. A BRC&W 2 car DMU is heading for Burton with a train from Wolverhampton, it will run via Walsall, Brownhills and Lichfield The stations on the line closed to local passenger traffic on 18/01/1965. Willenhall was the major centre of the lock making industry and the town has an interesting museum dedicated to locks and lock making. Peter Shoesmith Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

Standing in the smoke filled gloom of Birmingham New Street is a BRC&W DMU, clean and shiny although by this time (09/1963) it has been in service for a few years, the driver glares after his receding passengers who could not be bothered to close a door. On the right, on the Midland side of the station, is Stanier Jubilee 45676 Codrington the train is and it will soon be heading west towards Gloucester or Bristol. In the town they were constructed - a BRC&W formation has just passed Smethwick Rolfe Street station with the 1.25pm Birmingham New Street - Manchester Piccadilly via Stoke-on-Trent service on 2 February 1964. Michael Mensing.
