On the evening of 5 December 1984 a Glossop unit (only a few days left in traffic) and Class 104 set BX491 (53431 and presumably 59137 + 53496) are seen in Manchester Piccadilly. Chris Thorp.
6th December 1984
At Manchester Victoria on 6 December 1984 25 284 draggs a failed class 104 DMU formed of 53503 + 53448 into the station. Another class 104 unit and 2 class 120s can be seen in the suburban part of the station and another class 25 acting as station pilot is just about visible on the through lines in the darkness of the station. One of the Newton Heath allocated 'White Stripe' with red buffer beam class 104 BRC&W dmu's DMCL M53524 with M53464, stand at platform 14 at a now totally unrecognizable Manchester Victoria. These units with a White Strip down the body side indicated that they had modified suspension for fast running on express services to Blackpool, which probably meant very little when i took this with the influx of class 150 'Sprinter' new builds. 15th February 1985.
