Today Water Orton station has a large featureless platform, it is known as a freight hotspot and that platform has served railway enthusiasts well, either photographing or taking numbers. This picture shows Water Orton when it had its full complement of platform buildings and semaphore signals. Where the car park is today was a goods yard mainly used by local coal merchants who would have a wagon of coal delivered the contents of which they would bag up into those familiar 1 cwt sacks and deliver by lorry to local houses. The picture is undated but we suspect around 1963, it features a Birmingham bound BRCW 3 car unit which may have run from Burton-on Trent. *I have not corrected the lean because I wanted to preserve as much of the gas lamp and the totem as possible.
