One of the last routes to see what became known as 'heritage units' was the Hope Valley line from Sheffield to Manchester, at the time operated by First North Western. Having just worked the 1214 from Sheffield, Met Camm unit 101679 (vehicles 51224 and 51533) rests in the sun under the overall roof in Manchester Piccadilly on 9 February 2001. The two-car set had been refurbished and repainted into Regional Railways livery in 1992, and remained allocated to Longsight depot in Manchester until final withdrawal. Both vehicles were scrapped in Caerwent in 2004.
