NSE liveried Pressed Steel Class 117, set 403 with 51378 leading (and presumably 59488 + 51336). Seen on the Down Relief line, arriving in Platform 3 Ealing Broadway with a Paddington to Reading service. Part of station improvements taking place at the time, the very fresh and clean platform block paving and concrete edging on Platform 4 is very noticeable in the foreground. Alistair Fyffe.
RG allocated Class 117 DMU set L403 formed of vehicles 51336+59488+51378 brake for the station stop at Taplow with the 1110 stopping service from Reading to Paddington on 8th April 1989. It is sobering to think that this set, and many other RG sets, had been doing the same routes day in day out and in the same formation, since they were delivered new in 1959/60 - virtually 30 yrs when this picture was taken. Most were destined to last another 3 or 4 years before they were replaced by 'Turbo's'... ! Nigel Mack.
