Class 104 DMU at Manchester Exchange

August 1982

Two very smokey Birmingham RC&W Co.3-car Local Passenger dmu's (Class 104) Nos.M50463 (Class 104/2), M59140 (169), M50515 (104/1) of the 1957 batch in BR Rail Blue livery with all yellow front end and another set Nos.M50443 (104/2), M59149 (169), M50523 (Class 104/1) of the 1957 batch with a Blackpool-service white stripe passing Manchester (Exchange) on a Manchester (Victoria) - Bolton - Blackpool service, 08/82. The carriage numbers were hurriedly taken at the time so may not be accurate. Hugh Llewelyn.

17th February 1986

There's a storm brewing over Strangeways, viewed from Manchester Victoria station looking towards the Boddington's Brewery. Birmingham R C & W Co. Class 104 unit No.53463 and Swindon Class 120 unit No.51581 face each other in the platform on 17th February 1986. Gordon Edgar.

Date: 5th June 1985

A busy scene at York on 5th June 1985, as passengers hurry along the platform to board a gurgling four-car DMU with Newton Heath-allocated hybrid Class 104 (DMBS) 53463 & Class 108 (DMCL) 52041 leading the formation. The driver is at the head of the 'convoy' of passengers, with his polystyrene cup of British Rail tea and the guard unloads parcels from the luggage area of the Class 104. Standing alongside is Hull Botanic Gardens-allocated Class 108 (DTCL) 54207. Gordon Edgar.
