Class 116 DMU at Smethwick West

22nd May 1976

Class 116 DMU set TS513 (presumably 50120 + 59013 + 50077) with a Class 120 on the rear seen in Smethwick West station on 22 May 1976. Michael Mensing.

Class 116 DMU at Water Orton

23rd September 1978

A class 116 dmu (set TS513, presumably 50077 + 59013 + 50120) rattles over the junction at Water Orton with a Derby to Birmingham New Street service 23/9/1978. Hams Hall power station dominates. Stephen Burdett.

Class 116 DMU at Nuneaton

20th April 1980

Nuneaton 20 April 1980. Despite having "Special" as a destination, this three-car class 116 diesel set is heading to a fairly normal destination in the form of Coventry. The formation of set TS513 at this time was 50120/59013/50077, a formation it held from 1969 to 1983. Jeremy Chapter.

Class 116 DMU at Bamber Bridge

3rd August 1985

The non-too common sight of a Tyseley allocated Derby built Class 116 Suburban three-car DMU (M53120, M59442 & M53077) at Bamber Bridge with a Colne to Preston service on August 3rd 1985. With its Tyseley Depot board in the cab window (TS513), it would appear that the unit had been temporarily allocated to Newton Heath Depot to cover a shortage of DMU sets. Martyn Hilbert.

Class 116 DMU at Longbridge

14th June 1986

Longbridge station on 14 June 1986 has on the right 53120 leading away from the station on the Cross City Line to Lichfield City. The Class 121 DTS in use as a centre car is presumably 54284, the Class 116 DMBS on the rear should be 53077, these forming set TS513. A sister unit is in the down platform with a train for Redditch, the other end of the line. Peter Tandy.

23rd April 1987

Class 116 set TS513 enters Birmingham New Street on 23 April 1987. DMS M53120 leads. Steve Jones.

Class 116 DMU at Stratford-upon-Avon

7th September 1987

Class 116/115/116 set T513 (presumably 53120 + 59650 + 53077) runs past Stratford-upon-Avon East signalbox on 7 September 1987. The train was working the 14.10 to the terminus from Birmingham Moor Street. Peter Tandy.

Class 116 DMU at Henley

29th June 1988

This picture was taken on 29 June 1988 when I was scoping out a few locations for shots of steam workings on a weekend of intensive specials between Tyseley and Stratford-upon-Avon. The train is a Birmingham Moor Street to Stratford formed of class 116 TS513. Henley station can just be made out in the background and it appears that the leading cab of the unit has taken a bit of a clout in the recent past. Peter Tandy.
