The headboard requires a little bit of explanation - the last two surviving Class 126 sets had somehow managed to escape withdrawal at the time of the line's closure and one of the Swindon Diesel Preservation Society members had contacted BR to enquire if the sets could be rostered for service on the last day. A headboard was knocked up in the hope that something could be arranged. In the event, the Swindons were not rostered and the board seemed somewhat inappropriate, but was mounted for a short time at Kilmacolm for photographs. Andrew McConnell.
