Metropolitan Cammell

Metropolitan Cammell (also abreviated to Metro-Cammell or Met-Camm) built 796 first generation vehicles for British Railways — 760 DMU vehicles and 36 Blue Pullman vehicles:

Of the numerous private contractors that built first generation DMUs, Met-Camm supplied the most vehicles, this was due to their price per vehicle being one of the lowest and their timeframe for delivery being one of the shortest.

The company had two plants in Birmingham, one at Washwood Heath and one at Saltley. The first generation DMUs were built at Saltley, which would close in 1962.
