BR 33003 series Driving Instructions
These were introduced beginning in the 1950s and early editions featured technical details of the vehicles, how to start them, drive them, fault finding etc. The booklets measured approimately 4 3/8" x 7" and fitted into 5" x 8" plastic ring binders as on the right.
Initially there was generally one for each type of unit (or loco), these having blue covers. The cover images below are in various shades of blue but that can probably be atributed to different storage methods over the years, it is thought they were all the same shade when issued.
In April 1961 there were 'Standard Preparation and Disposal Duties' booklets issues, they were more generic in some cases covering many types. They had an orangish red cover and began in the 2xx range.
In 1961 (Blue Square) and 1962 (others) the Driving Instruction booklets were re-issued with one booklet covering all types with the same coupling codes. In most cases they the number of the booklet was they same as the version it replaced, the exception being the Blue Square one, and covers were white wityh the coupling code symbol except the White Circle edition which kept the blue cover so the white circle would show.
Most covered only one or two types, the exception being the blue square version.
In 1968 the booklets were standardised into a three part set:
1 - General Data And Equipment
2 - Driving Instructions Including Standard Preparation and Disposal Duties
3 - Fault Finding Data and Charts
Covers were red/orange, blue and green.
For Blue Square vehicles there were five booklets, a part 1 and 2 for Mechanical Tranmsmission and the same for Hydraulic Transmission, and a part 3 that covered both types. Were there equivalents issued for the other coupling codes? I've yet to come across any.
In August 1969 there was a three-part set issued for Red Triangle vehicles, covering the Derby 4-car Bed-Pan units that had their code revised from Blue Square. They were issued as one booklet containing three parts separated by the same red/orange, blue and green covers.
In the 1970s the 33003 series was replaced by a 33056 series of driving instructions, retaining the same later three part format with the same cover colours but changing to an A5 size no longer being divided by coupling codes.

The details below are not copied from any authorative listing, just compiled from the booklets themselves that I have managed to come across.
