July 1976

Haymarket Depot July 1976. Here's a very different view of Haymarket depot which I guarantee you will not have seen before, a telephoto shot from the roof of my father's office building over a mile away in Canning Street a short walk from Haymarket Station. Many class 101 Met Cams and class 105 Cravens DMUs can be seen as well as four class 25, two class 27s, two class 47s and a single class 40. The shot shows many long gone features such as the coal yard and substantial brick built office building (where the tram line to the Airport now runs) and the bends in the track (long since straightened out) where the former bridge carrying the Caledonian line to Princes Street station went over the top. The Jenners Depository stands out in the background and being a Listed structure of architectural or historic interest is still there, now in use as a self-store facility. Alistair Ness.
