Class 101 unit on a road learning special enters the northern portal of Clay Cross Tunnel on 9th March 1983, E51210 is leading with E56398 on the rear Kevin Law.

Class 101 Metro Cammell DTC 56060 in refurbished livery at Crewe 12-3-83. First class on locals in the area was phased out in 1981, the vehicle no longer has a first class stripe or window stickers, but they seem to have forgotten to remove the '1' from the door. On Tour With the Class 13 Army.

A unidentified Class 101 2-car unit calls at Haltwhistle with the 10:40 Newcastle - Carlisle on 12/03/1983. The bus on the right is Ribble fleet no. 1012 / PTF707L, an ECW coach-bodied Bristol RELH6L dating from September 1972, with the 1225 departure to Alston. Graeme Phillips Collection.

In a scene barely recognisable as the same today, Metropolitan-Cammell Class 101 unit 50157 + 56071, forming a Bishop Auckland to Saltburn service, passes the soon to be barren waste ground of the former Teesside Works Lackenby blast furnaces at Grangetown on 17th March 1983. The South Bank coke ovens are just out of view to the left and the converter at the Lackenby plant, under demolition in 2022, is to be seen above the railway as it curves away to the left. Sc50192 departs Inverkeithing with the 13:42 Edinburgh - Kirkcaldy working in the days before the Fife Circle was invented! This was 26th March 1983. The up platform here is partially constructed over the Keithing Burn, a stream which leads into the Firth of Forth via Inverkeithing Bay. Up trains leaving here face a stiff climb and will be 150 feet higher when they cross the Forth Bridge Brian McDevitt.

In the centre of the frame a Class 101 can be seen on the Rosyth Dockyard branch at Jamestown. Taken late afternoon on 5 April 1983. A loco-hauled service is on the main line and is entering the town of Inverkeithing on the upper right. Stuart Mackay.

Viewed through various bits of railway clutter, a Metro-Cammell Class 101 set with E50235 leading passes Gilberdyke junction on it's way to Hull on 5th April 1983. The semaphore arms were at this time located on short posts at the end of the Gilberdyke up platform. These signalled trains travelling along the up relief line and were replaced with more conventional signals when the quadruple lines were removed in the late 1980s. Syd Young.
