A Class 108 departs from Platform 3 of Wigan North Western on 19/8/80. Although unsure of what vehicle is what, the photographer notes that the vehicles there at the time included M51929 + M52041. Robert Frise.

With the overnight frost thawing, A pair of Sandite cars were stabled adjacent to the WCML at Wigan Springs Branch on February 7th 1982. The nearest car was ADB977051, a former Cravens Class 105 Driving Trailer Composite Lavatory (DTCL) ex E56427. It was stood with ADB977047, a Park Royal Class 103 Driving Trailer Composite Lavatory (DTCL) ex M56156. Martyn Hilbert.

Contrasting front end designs are shown in this image of two Class 108s in platform 3 at Wigan North Western with a Liverpool Lime Street service, March 1982. Most obviously the unit on the left has a roof mounted headcode box, by then obsolete, whereas the unit on the right has a window to display a destination blind. S Gaskell.

The data panel on a Liverpool bound seen at Wigan North Western DMU shows that it's a Class 108 Driving Motor Brake Second. DQ212 is the design code for that type of vehicle and it has 52 2nd class seats. It was last shopped for a C3 exam on 7th August 1981 at works code 5458, which was Doncaster Works Carriage Shops, and would be due for shopping again in February 1984. The LW beneath simply indicates it was a lightweight vehicle. March 1982. S Gaskell.

A 2-car Class 108 DMU which I had photographed earlier in the day at Springs Branch, is now pictured at Wigan North Western on its return journey, the 11.35 Blackpool North to Liverpool Lime Street. Leaving Wigan at 12.25 by the station clock it was running two minutes late. October 1983. S Gaskell.

Cycling home along the towpath of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, I paused just outside Wigan to photograph a 2-car Class 104 making its way along the Southport line. In the background are the floodlights of Springfield Park, the home of Wigan Athletic F.C. until 1999. October 1983. S Gaskell.
