MINUTES OF MEETING OF AUGUST 19TH, 1959

Agreed.

710.  GENERAL MATTERS OF POLICY

1.  Programme of Diesel Multiple Unit Operation

(a)  1960 and 1961 Building Programmes

Noted that Messrs.Randle, Gould, Baker and Varley had jointly reported on the request from the D.T.S. for 29 of the 50 (MC + DT) units in the 1960 programme for the Nottingham - Leicester and old G.C. lines to be altered to MC + MC units, thereby enabling the Manchester Part 3 scheme to be completed earlier and for the 1961 requirements to be adjusted accordingly.  The joint report recommends the proposal at an estimated increased cost of £197,200, and a recommendation has been put to the C.M.E. (Central Staff) who is arranging for a submission to be made to the Works & Equipment Committee seeking authority for the additional expenditure.

The C.M.E. has stated that justifications for the additional expenditure will have to be made in submitting the schemes affected.

Statement showing the allocation to the L.M.R. of the vehicles in the 1959 and 1960 building programmes attached as appendix "B".
